One of my favorite artists is Catherine Klein, who became known as "the" rose painter in the 1890's. Her exquisite work was widely circulated because it appeared in print form on postcards, calendars, gift books, etc. during a time when such items were immensely popular. I recently copied two of my favorite Catherine Klein still life paintings, originally featured on a 1901 calendar. Her work was mainly watercolor and/or goauche and my versions are painted with oils, but I tried to replicate the looser style of the watercolor. Fun! Click on the pictures to see the packets.
